Composite Tooling and Molds- Turn Point Design specializes in CNC cut female molds.
We can create a mold or tool directly from a variety of substrates including tooling
foams, graphite, composites, plywood, plastics, and aluminum. We can help you choose
a substrate depending on the number of parts you need to produce and the temperatures
the mold will need to withstand. If accuracy is of utmost importance, we can probe
the part once machined to find the true tolerances achieved and produce a detailed
report.
Large Molds and Tools- Turn Point Design is uniquely setup to cut and fabricate
large format molds up to 30’ in length. For large molds our construction method
of choice is to strip plank plywood over OSB frames. This rough buck is then put
onto the 5-axis machine to cut the geometry to high accuracy. Once off the machine
the parts have a light layer of epoxy and fiberglass laminated over them to seal
the surface and then high build primer which can be taken to a mirror finish. This
type of mold is quite a bit more stable/robust than the foam and putty types produced
by our competitors. It can also be more affordable.

Plugs and Production Molds- Turn Point Design can machine a plug or one-off tool
at high levels of accuracy. Once the tool is machined we can spray Duratec primer,
sand and buff out to a high gloss. At this point in the process the mold could be
ready to use or if it is a plug we can use it to produce a production mold that is
ready to make your parts.
